Writer or not?

I'm in a dilemma! I visit lots of blogs and like to leave comments. I refer to myself as "unpubbed", describing myself as a would be writer (of books). But...I have had a short story published here in the UK - and was paid for it.

So...do you think I can call myself a "published author" or not? I feel it's a bit cheeky to say that I am if I'm honest. In addition, when it comes to writing competitions I'm still eligible to enter if I've not had a book published.

Any thoughts? Caroline x

  1. I appreciate the dilemma Caroline. Yes you are a published author so you can describe yourself as such (IMHO). Congratulations

  5. Yes, you're definitely a published author, Caroline, so be proud of it. And if competitions specify that you mustn't have published a book, you should still be all right, although if they just say "unpublished" you wouldn't be eligible. I'm sure I've read that some comps specify not having published more than a certain number of items. You could always check with them.
